My Little boy Ira started weeks ago. I absolutely love Mr. and Mrs. McLean. They are just the nicest people and he is a great instructor. I recently called the other day to see what time they closed so I could drop his $ off for the party Friday. Have you, the weather was bad out that Wednesday. Mrs. McLean answered and told me to bring it in the next day that she didn't want me leaving on the road in such bad weather. Guys, that meant a lot to me. I am so glad they chose to open up in Saraland!

I was privileged to be able to visit McLean's Martial Arts last this year. I have to say that McLean's Martial Arts is a top-notch professional Taekwon-Do School. I have been training in martial arts over 32 years and have been to schools all over the country. McLeans is one of the best of I have ever been to. His instructors and staff are very knowledgeable, personable, and fantastic teachers.

My little one just started a couple of weeks ago and we both love it! I was having problems with him at school about paying attention, following directions and doing homework but just the couple of weeks he's been going is showing progress in school! He knows he cannot go until his homework is done and if he gets any behavior marks in school. So he does his work and gets ready without me even asking! He loves it so much. He just got his second stripe and he's so proud! The staff is so welcoming and nice! The instructors are awesome and so good with kids! The fact that Mr McLean keeps his attention says it all, trust me!! We will be there for many years to come!

FAQs

Do I need to know jiu-jitsu or Judo to study Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

No, you don’t. There are beginner classes available and many of the people who study Brazilian Jiu Jitsu have no prior martial arts training.

Do I need any special equipment to study Brazilian Martial Arts?

Students typically wear a Gi (two-piece garment worn by martial artists.) It is also typical for some students may want to wear a mouth guard. It’s a good idea to have a supply of athletic tape, as well.

As a beginner, do I need to spar?

No. Beginner classes focus on teaching basic techniques and safety, and you can then work your way up to controlled sparring in class.

Can Brazilian Jiu Jitsu help me defend myself?

Absolutely. It’s one of the world’s most effective self-defense techniques and is often preferred because it teaches students to leverage their body weight to defeat larger opponents.
